Our Support Staff

Kim McIntyre - Director of Medical Services/ Veterinary Technician in Training

Kim grew up on Salt Spring Island and through numerous career paths and life experiences she has found her passion in veterinary medicine. She loves her job and truly appreciates that all of the skills she has acquired over her lifetime are put to use in her position at the clinic. She loves giving clients and their pets personalized care and attention.

Currently she is studying to become a Registered Veterinary Technician through Thompson Rivers University Distance Program and will complete her training this year. Recently she completed her level one Fear Free training and is our first certified Fear Free professional.

When not at the clinic or studying, she spends time with her family, her dog Teddy, her feisty mare Tara and her cheeky miniature horse Buddy! She loves practicing horsemanship and developing herself to the best of her abilities. Her most favourite place is on the back of her horse in the wilderness with the sun on her back.

Janet - Veterinary Technician

Janet has many years of diverse experience in a number of animal care situations. Much of that has been in small and mixed animal practices, with a sprinkling of work in microbiology, as well as postmortem government labs to round out her portfolio.

Janet's love for animals began with her beloved childhood pets. In college she pursued her training as a Veterinary Technician. Later, she delighted in raising her three children on a hobby farm in rural Ontario.

Moving west in 2007, Janet continued to work in the field of veterinary care. Sharing her hillside home on Salt Spring with Roland, much of her spare time is spent caring for her numerous and much loved animals.

Janet's wee menagerie currently includes a variety of breeds of chickens, alpacas, goats, a sheep, pot belly pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs, tortoises, two Boston Terriers and a kitten!

As well, Janet grows a big garden and enjoys beach combing and creating wood crafts - with of course, precious time taken to visit her growing family of grandchildren!

Gabriel - Veterinary Technician

Gabriel came all the way from southern Brazil with his wife Natalia and daughter Helena to join our team as a veterinary technician.

With a 14 year background in veterinary services in his home country, he made the move of coming permanently to Canada to pursue a nice community life for his family.

He has a weak spot for sheep and cows and is ready to assist in our farm calls!

Between pushing the swing and having ice cream with Helena, Gabriel likes to spend his time outdoors and is always seeking someone to help and to have an easy talk!

Lindsey Taylor - Groomer

Lindsey Taylor was born and raised in Calgary, but has since lived all over the world. Having travelled to over 30 countries, she settled in SaltSpring in late 2016, and hopes to stay here for as long as possible.

Lindsey has always had a passion and love for animals, and was thrilled to get the opportunity to help them professionally. She spent the first year at the clinic as an assistant, before realizing that she had an interest in grooming.

Trained under the amazing Christo, she has enthusiastically jumped in to the grooming position, and loves it more every day! She recently completed her Level 1 dog grooming course at Wags in Parksville, and hopes she can continue to hone her grooming skills, and further her education whenever possible.

Erin - Veterinary Assistant

Erin and her partner purchased their first home on Salt Spring Island in 2018. Growing up in Victoria she has always been an island girl who cherished her pets; ranging from cats, to reptiles and rodents. Now she happily has 3 dogs and a cat but hopes to add more to the pack soon!

She entered the Veterinary Medicine field in 2018 to learn, work with and help animals. Learning has always been a passion of hers so being a part of the Gulf Island team has provided excellent opportunity to just that!

On her free time she enjoys spending time with her animals, going to the ocean and finding hidden pieces of paradise in the forest.

Megan - Veterinary Assistant

Megan moved back to Salt Spring Island in July of 2018 after graduating from high school in Smithers BC.

She is excited to be working in the veterinary field and continues to learn lots. She has spent her life surrounded by animals whether it was raising sheep for 4-H, riding for pony club, or training dogs.

In her free time Megan enjoys the outdoors and spending time hiking or going for trail rides.
